Understanding the Automated Resilience Index (ARI)

The Automated Resilience Index (ARI) is a next-generation cybersecurity performance metric that measures how effectively an organization detects, contains, and neutralizes threats through automation and human response. It reflects the true level of cyber resilience — combining speed, efficiency, and containment success into a single measurable score between 0 and 10.

The ARI formula integrates three essential cybersecurity KPIs:

• Containment Success Rate (CSR) – the percentage of threats stopped before reaching users or systems.
• Autonomous Containment Efficiency (ACE) – the proportion of incidents mitigated automatically through AI, SOAR platforms, or autonomous defense systems.
• Mean Time to Neutralization (MTTN) – the average number of seconds required to fully eliminate a threat after detection.

Together, these metrics are used in the equation:
ARI = 2 × π × CSR × ACE / log₁₀(MTTN + t), where t is a constant (10^(π/5)) ensuring consistent scaling. The logarithmic factor captures the nonlinear benefit of rapid containment — the faster a response, the exponentially greater the resilience.

A perfect score of 10 indicates instant, fully automated containment. Lower values suggest slower or less automated response processes. High ARI scores represent superior AI-driven resilience, shorter exposure times, and stronger overall defense capability.
